Digital technology and internet changing lives of women in Madhya Pradesh

women computerBhopal: Madhya Pradesh Science & Technology Department has launched a special campaign to empower 500,000 women in the state by training them to use computers, internet and the digital technology in their daily life.

A state Government spokesperson told Newsroom24x7 that the ambitious campaign, named as “e-Shakti Abhiyan” will empower women by bringing them closer to the digital technology in Madhya Pradesh is being conducted by MAP-IT and “Google India”. This is an important step towards acheiving the goal of turning the state into “Digital Madhya Pradesh”, the spokesperson observed.

Basic computer training has been imparted to over 150,000 women in the first phase of e-Shakti Abhiyan. Training has already commenced in 20 districts. These include Bhopal, Indore, Morena, Singrauli, Ujjain, Rewa, Shajapur, Shivpuri, Agar-Malwa, Khargone etc.

Women are being introduced to basics like browsing of internet on mobile phones and laptops, using the search option, using Youtube for searching and watching online videos, use of e-mail, social media and SMS.

The targeted trainee groups under the campaign include anganwadi workers, assistants and supervisors of Women and Child Development Department, women workers, ANMs and ASHA workers of Health Department, lady teachers and higher secondary girl students under School Education Department, women professors and girl students of Higher Education, women constables and other policewomen, members of self-help groups under Panchayats & Rural Development Department, municipal corporations’ women workers, women Kisan Mitras (Kisan Didis) under Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Department etc. The training is being imparted in simple Hindi by MAP-IT with the cooperation of “Google India”. For this, Google India has formed district-wise teams.
