Chennai: What’s come as a huge blow to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the central enforcement agency under Department of Revenue, is the arrest of an ED officer in a bribery case.

Officers from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption apprehended Ankit Tiwari, an Enforcement Directorate official, in the vicinity of the Kodaikanal Road Toll Collection Plaza on the Madurai-Dindigul four-way lane. Subsequently, Tiwari was remanded to judicial custody.

Following this arrest, on the evening of December 1, 2023, Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) investigators initiated searches at the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) office in Madurai. This action transpired hours after the ED officer was nabbed in Dindigul district.

The charges against the ED officer involve soliciting and accepting bribe from a government doctor involved in a disproportionate assets case. During the arrest of Ankit Tiwari, ₹20 lakh in cash, purportedly received as bribe, was seized from his vehicle at the Kodaikanal Road Toll Collection Plaza. Tiwari was then taken to the V&AC office in Dindigul for further inquiry.
