New Delhi: The Patiala House Court here on Monday 8 November sentenced Ansal brothers – Sushil Ansal and Gopal Ansal, along with others, to 7 years for tampering with crucial evidence in the 1997 Uphaar Cinema fire tragedy case.
The Court also imposed a fine of Rs 2.25 crore each on the Ansal brothers in this case. Dr Pankaj Sharma, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Patiala House Court pronounced the order.
The Court also ordered Sushil and Gopal Ansal, who were out on bail, be taken into custody immediately on Monday.
The fire tragedy took place on June 13, 1997 at Uphaar Cinema in Green Park, in the union capital during the three o’clock screening of Hindi movie Border. Fifty-nine cinegoers were trapped inside and died of asphyxiation, while 103 were seriously injured in the stampede.
