Army veteran commits suicide over OROP: Rahul Gandhi slams Modi Government
New Delhi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi earlier today was detained by police and not allowed to meet the family members of the Army veteran who allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Jantar Mantar in the capital last night as he had failed to receive pension according to the one-rank-one pension (OROP) scheme implemented by the Union Government.
Amid high drama, Rahul Gandhi was arrested for the second time after he had met the deceased ex-Armyman’s family. Even Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejrival’s movement was restricted by Delhi Police. Matters got precipitated as many Congress and AAP leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia were detained by the police.
The Congress Vice President lashed out at the Modi Government. He said how can they arrest the family members of the deceased ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal, who was from Bhiwani district in Haryana. He also described his own detention as undemocratic.
When a media-person told senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad that Union Minister and former Army chief General V.K. Singh had said that the deceased ex-serviceman was of unstable mind, the Congress leader said that the person who has said this should get his mental condition examined.
