Radicalised Islamists and terrorists cannot be allowed to hold normal life to ransom in Kashmir

The world has witnessed the devlish, dastardly and diabolic face of jihadi terror that had been unleashed in the Kashmir valley in the later part of the 80s by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) when Rajiv Gandhi was Prime Minister.

JKLF – the terror outfit – had used every form of crime from manslaughter to rape, loot and arson to spread fear and drive out the Kashmiri Pandits out of their homes and turn them into refugees in their own country in 1990.

In the last 20 years, Pakistan has followed a two pronged strategy in Kashmir. On the one side, they have waged a proxy war by regularly exporting trained terrorists across the border to strike targets at will and keep the Indian security agencies non-stop on alert. Matters went to the extreme in 1999 when infiltration of Pakistani soldiers disguised as Kashmiri terrorists and took positions on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC). This led to the Kargil War that ended with Pakistan’s humiliating defeat. On the other side, all along, the Pakistan Army and their intelligence agency – the ISI – have acted as handlers and also channelised funds to support the activities of the secessionist and anti-national elements in Kashmir to convey the message that the Kashmir issue is purely political and has nothing to do with “their” religion. This is the argument that the Abdullahs, Muftis and the the pseudo-liberals or the Congress leaders have constantly used as a smokescreen to cover the bare fact that the islamic radicalisation of a vast Muslim population in Kashmir that too over several decades and generations is at the root of the problem and is the main reason why there is a big chunk of those in Kashmir who still subscribe to the two-nation theory that led to the formation of Pakistan in 1947. To acheive this goal, they want to convert the Kashmir valley into a wholly Muslim territory and the ethnic cleansing of Kashmir by driving out the Kashmiri Pandits from their homeland was part of this plot.

What calls the bluff on all fake claims that a terrorist cannot be a Muslim gets amply exposed by the stone pelters and crowds that have always surged on the streets, either to block the security forces carrying out their operations against the terrorists or the way they have turned out at funeral processions of terrorists killed by the security forces.

The wheel has gone full circle. Earlier it was JKLF and this time it is The Resistance Front (TRF) formed in August 2019 after the abrogation of provisions under Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and supported by Pakistan. TRF has claimed the killing of Ajay Pandita Bharti, a popularly elected Sarpanch. He was shot dead by terrorists in Anantnag on Monday, 8 June 2020. He had raised the issue of threats to his life and demanded security this past December.

The TRF is nothing but a front of the Pakistan backed Lashkar-e-Taiba [LeT]. They only want to mislead. We have identified the terrorists who carried out the attack; they are from the Hizb – Dilbag Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief.

Ajay Pandita is a martyr to the cause of the Kashmiri Hindus, who were driven out of their homes by the terrorists, who have either been aided or directly exported by Pakistan and have received overt and covert support of the local radicalised Muslims.

It is high time the radicalised Muslims in Kashmir should get the clear message that they are playing with fire. India has once been divided on religious lines. This wont happen twice. Nobody will be allowed to use the demography of a region or territory of India to question its soverignty. What Jinnah did once at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives and the biggest exodus of human population in the history of this earth cannot be allowed to be repeated again. There is a word of caution for those faking the Kashmir problem as a political issue. They should see the writing on the wall. If anti-national and separatist forces are bent upon threateing and holding the lives of the Kashmiri Hindus to ransom, if they want to derail the democratic process that has been initiated in Kashmir through acts of terror and violence against unsuspecting peace loving members of the minority Hindu community, they should be told by whosever they look up to, any where in the world for motivation, funding and support, that its high time they drop their blinkers and imagine what will happen once they try to invoke again the theory of two nations on the basis of religion vis-a-vis Kashmir as that would lead to a holocaust and an exodus of people not in their wildest dreams they can imagine.

Postscript: The nation owes a lot to Niyanta Pandita, the brave daughter of martyr Ajay Pandita. Within 24-hours of her father’s assassination, she was on national television underscoring that her father, a braveheart, had played his part as a citizen of this country and now it is for the nation to rise to the occasion and deliver justice.

Rajya Sabha passes Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, scraps special status under Article 370

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha on Monday, 5 August 2019, approved a resolution abrogating clauses under Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and a Bill to bifurcate the state into two union territories with Home Minister Amit Shah stating that the controversial provisions under Article 370 were responsible for extreme corruption, terrorism, monopoly of business, poverty and lack of development in the state.

The Bill to bifurcate the State of Jammu and Kashmir was approved by 125 votes in favour and 61 against it. One member abstained.

Rajya Sabha also passed the Bill to extend 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections in Jammu and Kashmir and also the resolution to abrogate Article 370 by voice vote.

TMC opposed the resolution and staged a walked out before Shah’s reply to the debate. YSR-Congress, BJD, BSP, and AIADMK voted in favour of the bill.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill provides for bifurcation of the state into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Concluding the debate, the Home Minister said that “Article 370 is the biggest hurdle to restoration of normalcy in the state,” The Union government was committed to making Jammu and Kashmir the most developed state in the country, he went om to underscore.

Reacting to the dissenting voices, especially from Congress side by leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad and P Chadambaram, Shah said, Kashmir will not be allowed to turn into another Kosovo. He also asked who was responsible for the policy that has lead to the death of more than 41000 people due to terrorism.

Since Moghul times, kashmir has been referred to as “heaven on earth” Shah said adding that it will remain so.

On Chidambaram’s concern about why Jammu and kashmir was being bifurcated and denied the status of a State, the Home Minister said that full statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir when there is normalcy and at “appropriate time”.

Article 370 is the biggest hurdle to normalcy in the state, Shah said and went on to underscore that the government was committed to making Jammu and Kashmir the most developed state in the country.

Shah pointedly said that during the last 70-years, three families in Jammu and Kashmir have prevented the growth of leadership and percolation of democracy at the grassroot level. He further said that despite Rs 14,255 per capita being allocated to Jammu and Kashmir as against Rs 3,681 per capita national average, the State did not progress due to rampant corruption. Tourism also failed to take off as big hotels were unable to purchase property and contribute towards the growth of the tourism sector in the State. Similar was the case on the industry front, he added.

State sponsored terrorism is the biggest threat: Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the Majlis – the Parliament of Maldives in Male on 8 June 2019

Malé: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said while addressing the People’s Majlis during his State Visit to Maldives on June 8 2019 that the litmus test for today’s leadership is the way they deal with the dark forces of terrorism and radicalisation.

The international community has actively arranged for global Convention and many conferences on the grave threat of climate change, Modi pointed out asking why not a similar global response on the issue of terrorism?

Modi called upon all global institutions and all leading nations to organise a global conference on terrorism within a stipulated time-frame, so that there could be meaningful and result-oriented discussions for plugging the loopholes that terrorists and their supporters exploit. If we delay action any further, our current and future generations will never forgive us, he opined

Stating that there are many emerging challenges from the disruptions caused by technological advancement, shifts in the axis of economic and strategic power in a multi-polar world, competition and rivalry, Modi said.

Reflecting on the grave issue of terrorism, Modi said it is a very big challenge. This is not a challenge faced by one nation or region only. It is a challenge for all humankind. Not a day goes by when the horrific face of terrorism does not show itself, and takes an innocent life somewhere. Terrorists do not own banks. They don’t have their own mints, nor armament factories. But neither money nor weapons seem to be in short supply for them. Where do they get these from? Who provides them the facilities they need?

Without naming Pakistan, the Indian Prime Minister said that State sponsorship of terrorism is the biggest threat.

It is indeed extremely unfortunate that even now some people resort to the fallacy of distinguishing between the so-called ‘good’ and ‘bad’ terrorists. We have lost enough time debating these artificial differences. It is now no more tolerable. All forces supporting humanity must come together to effectively fight terrorism.

BJP promise to scrap Article 370 and Article 35A: J&K leaders stand exposed

Lalit Shastri

Farooq Abdullah

Leaders like National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah, and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti – all of them former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir – today dropped their masks completely and took a common posture that complements the secessionist groups and those associated with the Hurriyat movement after BJP released its ‘Sankalp Patra’ (election manifesto 2019) promising to scrap Article 370 that grants special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir and Article 35A that guarantees special rights and privileges to the citizens of the state.

Mehbooba Mufti

Mehbooba Mufti has gone to the extent of retorting that the “Indian occupation of Kashmir” will become “illegal occupation” if Article 370 and Article 35A get scrapped. In a TV interview, she has also said “it is my warning to the BJP that they should stop playing with fire. Jammu and Kashmir sits on powder keg. If you hurl a spark, there will be no Jammu and kashmir and no Hindustan. If you do away with Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir will also get freedom (from India)”.

Senior Abdullah, was in a belligerant mood today. “They talk of abrogating Article 370. If they do that, the accession (of J&K) will also get nullified. I swear by Allah, I think this is the wish of the Almighty. We will get freedom from them”, he said from a public platform.

Farooq Abdullah spewed venom. Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said: “yah sadak banegi voh sadak banegi, agar mulk hi nahi raha to sadak kya banegi” (this road will be built, that road will be built. If there is no nation, where are you going to build the roads).

“They think they will bring outsiders and settle them in Kashmir to reduce our numbers. We will face the situation, In shāʾ Allāh. I swear upon Allah. It must be Allah’s wish. We will attain freedom.” – National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah

Amar Abdullah also threw a direct challenge to “Modi sahab and Amit Shah” (Prime Minister and the BJP President) on this issue.

When terrorists from across the border or the home grown terrorists and jehadi elements have targeted Indian troops or military installations, not even an iota of this belligerance has surfaced even remotely when it comes to these leaders. They remained pathetically silent, when the Kashmiri Hindus were hounded, raided and driven out of their homes by terrorists and the secessionist forces to meet the objective of ethnic cleansing. These leaders never raised the demand for the return of the Kashmiri Hindus, who have become refugees in their own country.

The one voice in which these leaders are now crying hoarse makes explicit that they are hand in glove with the terror outfits operating from Pakistan and the secessionist elements who want another partition of India on religious grounds. Who is going to tell them that India chose to be a Secular, Sovereign Republic when those advocating the two nation theory managed to partition the nation and create the the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The two nation theory was the founding principle of the Pakistan Movement and the partition of India. Partition saw the displacement of about 15 million people who crossed the borders. Violence and slaughter at the time of partition resulted in the massacre of hundreds of thousand who were caught in the two-way migration. Any demand for secession on religious grounds now could fan unrest in the country. What will happen if the situation goes out of hand in case there is a build up of demand that the majority religion be declared the official religion of India. Wonder if any one has thought of such a possibility and its consequences. The Jammu and Kashmir leaders should realize that ours is an inclusive society and the Indian citizens, cutting across regional and religious lines, who believe in values of secularism and co-existence, should have equal rights and opportunity when it comes to settling in any part of the country. It is high time the nation gives up the whole idea of special status to Jammu and Kashmir. They should know that winning hearts is not a one way traffic.
