Fake passport case: Chhota Rajan gets 7 years imprisonment

New Delhi: The Special judge, CBI Cases, Patiala House Courts in New Delhi has sentenced Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje , alias Chhota Rajan to undergo seven years Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs.15,000.

The Court, on Tuesday, April 25, also sentenced three former officials of Regional Passport Office (RPO), Bangalore. Those sentenced are Ms.Jayashree Rahate, Deepak Natvarlal and Ms. Lalitha Laxamanan, all to undergo seven years Simple Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.15,000 each.

CBI had registered a case on 31 October 2015 against Chhota Rajan and the public servants (unknown at that stage) under Sections 120-B, 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 & 474 of IPC, Section 12 of Passports Act, 1967 and 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

CBI had arrested Chhota Rajan on 6 November 2015 after his deportation from Indonesia and he remained in police custody till 19 November 2015. After that he remained in judicial custody at Tihar Jail in New Delhi.

It was established during investigation that Chhota Rajan was involved in criminal conspiracy with Jayashree Rahate, Deepak Natvarlal Shah and Lalitha Laxamanan, all at that time were officials of Regional Passport Office, Bangalore. The charge against them was that they allegedly got issued Indian Passport on 1 January 1998 in the name of Mohan Kumar, a non-existent person. Chhota Rajan, on the basis of this Passport, got issued another passport on 19 December 2003 from High commission of India at Harare, Zimbabwe and another passport from Consulate General of India in Sydney (Australia). Chhota Rajan had stayed in Zimbabwe and Australia with the fake identity of Mohan Kumar on the basis of the passport fraudulently issued by the Regional Passport Office in Bangalore.
