President of India accepts Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s resignation from Union Cabinet

New Delhi: The President of India, on the Prime Minister’s advice, has accepted the resignation of Harsimrat Kaur Badal from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution.

Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has directed that Narendra Singh Tomar, Cabinet Minister, be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, in addition to his existing portfolios.

Ms Badal resigned from Union Cabinet on Thursday in protest against what she described as the anti-farmer ordinances and legislation.

Lok Sabha has okayed the passage of two crucial Bills on agricultural reforms.

The Lok Sabha passed The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 on Thursday 17 September.

The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 seeks to provide for the creation of an ecosystem where the farmers and traders enjoy the freedom of choice relating to sale and purchase of farmers’ produce which facilitates remunerative prices through competitive alternative trading channels to promote efficient, transparent and barrier-free inter-State and intra-State trade.

The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 seeks to provide for a national framework on farming agreements that protects and empowers farmers to engage with agri-business firms, processors, wholesalers, exporters or large retailers for farm services and sale of future farming produce at a mutually agreed remunerative price framework in a fair and transparent manner and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Kamal Nath's resignation accepted

Bhopal: The Governor of Madhya Pradesh has accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Kamal Nath and his Council of Ministers from March 20, 2020, and has requested him to continue in his position along with his colleagues until the new Chief Minister is sworn in.

Notification to this effect has been issued by the State General Administration Department.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Friday afternoon 12.30 pm, 20 March 2020, announced at a press conference that he is going to submit his resignation to the Governor.

Nath will be meeting Governor Lalji Tandon at 1 pm and submitting his resignation ahead of the floor test ordered by the Supreme Court.

Jyotiraditya Scindia resigns from Congress

New Delhi: Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has tendered his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Scindia’s resignation, dated 9 March, says it is time for him to “move on”. He goes on to observe: “While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning, to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within this party.”

Immediately after news of Scindia’s resignation broke, it was followed by a huge development – 19 Pro- Scindia MLAs have resigned. Senior Congress MLA Bisahulal Singh, from Anuppur, has also submitted his resignatiin. They have sent their resignation letters to State Governor Lalji Tandon.

Scindia, it is learnt, will be joining the BJP at the party headquarters in Delhi at 6 pm on Tuesday.

In the meanwhile, K C Venugopal, AICC General Secretary has issued a statement declaring that Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved the expulsion of Scindia from the party with immediate effect for anti-party activities.
