19 sentenced in fodder scam case, Lalu gets 14 years in jail

Ranchi: The Special Judge Ranchi today sentenced  RJD chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav 14 years in jail along with 18 other accused in the fodder scam case.

Lalu has got two sentences of 7 years each under different sections of IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.Both these sentences will run consecutively).

The following sentences were awarded to them:-

The sentences for imprisonment shall run consecutively.

CBI had registered the instant case in compliance of orders dated 11.03.1996 passed by the Hon’ble High Court of Patna and the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India vide orders dated 19.03.1996, and taken over investigation of the Case No 16/96 which was earlier registered at police station Dumka Town on the allegations of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs. 3.76 Crore from Dumka Treasury during December 1995 to January 1996 at the strength of forged documents, fictitious supply of animal feed. It was further alleged that such heavy withdrawals were made against meager genuine budget allotment of Rs. 1.5 lakh during the relevant period.

CBI arrests Principal Commissioner of Income Tax

Ranchi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Ranchi in an ongoing investigation of a case.

The arrested accused was produced in the court of Special Judge, Ranchi and remanded to Police Custody for four days till 15 July.

CBI had registered a case against Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Ranchi; Additional CIT, Ranchi; ITO (Tech), Ranchi; Another Officer of Income Tax, Ranchi; six private persons and other unknown public servants/private persons/companies under Section 120-B of IPC read with sections 7, 12, 13(2) read with 13 (1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act., 1988 on the allegations of criminal conspiracy, illegal gratification and criminal misconduct etc. Searches were conducted at the premises of accused persons at 23 locations (18 at Kolkata and 5 at Ranchi).

So far, a total cash of Rs. 3.7 crore, 6.6 kg. gold and some incriminating documents, including document related to a flat worth Rs. 4 crore were recovered during the search at the premises and one locker of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax. The documents recovered during searches at the premises of accused persons are being scrutinized and further investigation is continuing.

Massive 7.9 earthquake rocks Nepal, tremors felt in India

nepal-earthquakeKathmandu/New Delhi/Bhopal: A massive 7.9 earthquake followed by another hit Nepal on Saturday killing hundreds. People in Delhi-NCR, Bhopal, Patna, Jaipur, Kolkata, Ranchi, Gohati and many other places in North-east India also reported strong tremors and after-shocks between 11.40 am and 12.30 pm.

The imposing and historic Dharahara Tower and a few buildings in Kathmandu have collapsed.

In Bhopal, capital of central Indian State of Madhya Pradesh, State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was holding a meeting with senior officials in his fifth floor chamber rushed out of Mantralaya (secretariat) as a siren was sounded and the building was vacated as a precaution when tremors were felt. Around 12 noon a Bhopal resident went on his social networking platform sharing with friends that he just felt that his world was rocking..or was it an earthquake. Another friend responded by saying Yes, it was earthquake. It was felt in many parts of the city. Raj Patidar, a well known photographer in Bhopal said mild tremor was felt at Misrod near Bhopal. Reports also said that a couple of walls collapsed in different parts of Bhopal this afternoon

JL Gautam, head of operations (seismology) of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed tremors were felt in North and North-East India.The epicentre of the earthquake on Saturday was about 80 kms East of Pokhra in Nepal and was measured 7.9 on the Richter scale.
