Kiran Bedi removed as Governor of Poducherry

New Delhi: The President has directed that Dr. Kiran Bedi shall cease to hold the office of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry and has appointed Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana, to discharge the functions of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry, in addition to her own duties, with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office, until regular arrangements for the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry are made.

New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday, 19 July 2019, questioned the deadlines repeatedly set by State Governor Vajubhai Vala to complete the trust vote in the Assembly and moved the Supreme Court underscoring that the Governor cannot instruct the House regarding the manner in which the confidence motion has to be taken up.

The Karnataka Chief Minister has also sought clarification on the apex court’s July 17 order which said that the 15 rebel MLAs cannot be compelled to attend the proceedings of the House.

Kumaraswamy said in his plea that the Governor sent a communication Thursday directing that the confidence motion and the trust vote should be held before 1:30 pm on Friday. Later another communication was sent by the Governor asking that the trust vote be conducted by 6 pm.

Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar has reacted saying that the trust vote will take place only at the end of the debate.

Kamal Nath meets MP Governor for government formation

Following BJP’s defeat in the electoral battle, the outgoing chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has submitted his resignation and is expected to vacate the chief Minister’s residence in the next couple of days.

The Congress, which ended with a tally of 114 in a House of 230, has got the support of 4 newly elected independent MLAs as well as 2 MLAs of the BSP and 1 from the Samajwadi Party.

According to Congress insiders, there is a consensus in favour of Kamal Nath for the Chief Minister’s post. After the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) goes through the process of electing the leader and after the party high Command’s nod, the swearing-in is likely to be scheduled for 14 November.

Anandiben Patel is the new Madhya Pradesh Govenor

New Delhi: Former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel is the new Governor of Madhya Pradeh.

The appointment of Anandiben Patel as the Madhya Pradesh Govenror by the President of India was announced tonight (19 January, 2017) She will be the State Governor with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office.

Patel, a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata party since 1987, was the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat. Earlier, she was the Gujarat Cabinet Minister for Education between 2002 and 2007.

She held the Gujarat Cabinet portfolios of Road and Building, Revenue, Urban development and Urban Housing, Disaster Management and Capital Projects in the Government of Gujarat from 2007 to 2014.

Patel replaces Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli, who was holding additional charge as Madhya Pradesh Governor since September 2016.
