Rajnath Singh joins Rafale fighter aircraft handing over ceremony

Paris: India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday, 8 October 2019, participated in the Rafale fighter aircraft handing over ceremony, coinciding with Vijayadashami festival which symbolises the victory of good over evil and marking the Indian Air Force Day, at Merignac in Bordeaux along with French Minister of Armed Forces Ms Florence Parly.

Singh earlier during the day held talks with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron. He arrived here on Monday for a two-day official visit to France. During the talks, the two leaders comprehensively discussed key aspects of bilateral defence partnership and resolved to continue strengthening the ties between the two countries. “I thanked President Macron for his strong support to further intensifying our strategic partnership, especially in the defence sector, with India and for our ‘Make in India’ initiatives”, Singh said after the meeting.

The Defence Minister also thanked the French President for the strong support by France to India’s strategic interests and principles, including in fighting terrorism.

Earlier, on his arrival in Paris, the Defence Minister had tweeted that France is India’s important strategic partner and its special relationship with India goes far beyond the realm of formal ties. He also said that his visit to France is aimed at expanding the existing strategic partnership between both the countries.

Singh also expressed his deepest condolences, on behalf of the Indian Government and its people, upon the demise of former French President Jacques Chirac, saying Mr Chirac had played a decisive role in forging India-France Strategic Partnership.

DefMin Parrikar says, whoever gives India pain should be paid back in same coin

Manohar ParrikarNew Delhi : Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today emphatically stated that any individual or organisation causing pain to India should be paid back in the same coin but how, when and where should reside on us, and should be our choice. DefMin was making the remark with reference to Pathankot terror attack and its aftermath. Parrikar was addressing a gentry of Army personnel, and the audience mainly consisted of top brass of the Army, including Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag.

Parikkar reminisced events of the past, and making a reference to history sheets, he said, history tells us that until those who inflict damage on others experience the same pain, they don’t change.In his exact words — I am of the opinion, it should not be taken as a government thinking, I always believe that if anyone harms you, he understands the same language. How, when and place should be of your choice but if someone is harming this country, then that particular individual or organisation, I purposely used the words individual and organisation, should also receive the pain of such activities.

Elaborating on his abovesaid statements, DefMin later added — Basic principle is that until we give them pain, whoever they may be, until then, such incidents will not reduce. The minister, keeping Pathankot attacks on his mind, said, the country was proud of its seven soldiers who laid down their lives but he stood pained by the loss. He said — I don’t appreciate it. I have said that it is time we tell our soldiers that it is inevitable that we will lose some soldiers, and in this incident we lost one person in actual combat.

Def Min, Army and Air Force chiefs to visit Pathankot today

pathankot air baseNew Delhi : Pathankot attacks have shaken not only the state of Punjab, but rippled its effect over the entire country, and the central government is taking follow-up steps to clearly detail the entire militant operation. In a bid to take direct update from the crime scene first hand, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar along with Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag will today visit the Pathankot Air Base, which was attacked by Pakistani terrorists on Saturday.

The trio is scheduled to visit the strategic base, situated about 35 km from the border with Pakistan, in the day time today.The objective of these co-ordinated overview is to get a first hand assessment of the ground situation after six terrorists were killed by security forces.

The central government has already issued security audit of all vital defence installations in the country to find out the possible security loopholes. This visit can be seen in the light of such activity, and hopes to tighten any loose ends lying open at the attack base.

India-China agree to peaceful border relations

india china agreementNew Delhi : Neighboring countries India and China have agreed to restore peace and harmony on border related issues and refrain from disturbing the tranquil border areas which the two countries share along the line of divide between India and China. This agreement came in as a consequence of talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which resulted in formulation of a consensus agreement and implementation of it thereby. This is the highest level defence delegation to visit India in the recent years. The visit signifies the enhanced defence exchanges between India and China.

Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and China’s Central Military Commission General Fan Changlong sat together and held a bilateral discussions on border issues and both sides stressed on the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas for cooperation in diverse areas. As a consequence, the two country representatives arrived at the conclusion of mutually beneficial peaceful ties, joined voices together and agreed to implement consensus reached between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping to ensure peace and tranquility along the border.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar tweeted — India and China agree to further enhance communications and exchanges between the two Armed Forces. Defence Minister Parrikar and Chinese General Fan also condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and agreed to strengthen cooperation to fight terrorism. Parrikar went a step ahead and offered to share India’s expertise in fighting terrorism through joint exercises. Both China and India were of the view that peace and tranquility in the India-China border areas is the baseline for smooth development of bilateral relations in diverse areas and restoring peace and harmony in neighborhood ties. Both agreed armed forces from respective side of country call should shoulder important responsibilities for maintenance of peace, which could be more effectively achieved by furthering enhancement in inter-country data sharing and communications getting properly transpired between the two armed forces.

A strategy to put forth additional border personnel meeting points was strongly welcomed by both countries, and together, the two representatives welcomed the operationalisation of additional meeting points for border personnel from both sided of the country fence. An elaborate review of the ongoing exchanges was done, which culminated into mutual satisfaction at the bilateral military exercise from both sides. This stance was further strengthened by the Indian side which welcomed the proposal of scheduling of a visit by Commander of Lanzhou Military region to India early next year.
