S. Jaishankar replaces Sujatha Singh as Foreign Secretary
New Delhi, Jan. 28: In a surprise move just after the conclusion of US President Barack Obama’s visit for the Republic day, Sujatha Singh was replaced been replaced by SubrahmanyamJaishankar as India’s Foreign Secretary.
The decision to cut short Ms. Singh’s tenure, which was to end in August this year, was announced after a meeting of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) presided presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar , IFS, served from 2009 to 2013 as India’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, from 2007 to 2009 as High Commissioner to Singapore, and from 2001 to 2004 as Ambassador to the Czech Republic.As India’s Ambassador to the US, he played the pivotal role in negotiating the civil nuclear agreement between India and the US. He was also a key player during Mr. Modi’s US visit last September.
