At the outset in Lok Sabha, the Opposition MPs – mainly those from the Congress, Shiv Sena, Trinamool Congress, YSR Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, rushed into the well of the House. They started shouting slogans and also raised placards.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi was prominent in assuring the House that all the issues will be discussed.
Bhartruhari Mahtab, who was in the Speaker’s chair, asked the Opposition to finalise the issue it wants to discuss and pass it on to the business committee of the House as per the rules. The Opposition members were unrelenting and their protest continued..
In Rajya Sabha, when senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh tried to raise the Pegasus issue and also Income Tax raids on Dainik Bhaskar newspaper group, the Opposition MPs trooped into the well of the House and the same pattern of protest as witnessed in Lok Sabha was repeated in the Upper House.
Information and Technology Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw stated in Rajya Sabha that the timing of reports on Pegasus published by a section of the media just before the monsoon session cannot be a coincidence. He could not complete his statement as TMC MP Shantanu Sen snatched the statement from the IT Minister’s hands, tore it and threw it towards the chair. The Minister then submitted his statement to Deputy Chairman Harivansh Rai who was in the Chair.
Outside the House coinciding with the Farmers’ “Kisan Parliament” at Jantar Mantar not far from the Parliament House, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi led a protest by Congress MPs to demand a total roll back of the farm laws.
