Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday 11 September 2021 submitted his resignation. He was sworn in as chief minister for the second term in December 2017.
“I have resigned as chief minister of Gujarat”, Rupani told reporters after meeting Governor Acharya Devvrat and submitting his resignation. “I was given the opportunity to serve the state for five years. I will further do whatever is asked by my party”, Rupani said.
Rupani’s resignation comes one year before Gujarat – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home State – goes to polls. General election to the 182-member Gujarat State Assembly is scheduled in December 2022.
Rupani’s resignation was followed by that of his entire Cabinet. Now the rulinmg BJP will have to exercise one of the following options – it will either pick a successor or impose President’s Rule for the remaining period or go for a snap poll much ahead of schedule
