Jammu: At least 7 persons have died after cloudburst hit the Dacchan area in Kishthwar district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday 28 July 2021.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Central Government is closely monitoring the situation in the wake of the cloudbursts in Kishtwar and Kargil.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “Central Government is closely monitoring the situation in the wake of the cloudbursts in Kishtwar and Kargil. All possible assistance is being made available in the affected areas. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being.”
According to available reports seven bodies have been recovered from the cloudburst-hit Honzar village in Dacchan tehsil, while 17 have been rescued in an injured condition, many persons were still missing. The dead bodies were recovered from debris as a about nine houses were damaged following the cloudburst at Honzar village.
The affected area is in the upper reaches of Kishtwar and not connected by road.
The deceased have been identified as Ghulam Nabi, son of Ghulam Rasool; Abdul Majid, son of Nazir Ahmed; Sara Begum, wife of Ghulam Mohd; Rakila Begum, wife of Zakir Ahmed (Nomad); Zaytoon Begum, wife of Haji Lal Din (Nomad); Touseef Iqbal, son of Mohd Iqbal and Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din, son of Nasarullah – all residents of Honzar Dachhan.
There was also a cloudburst near the holy Shri Amarnath Shrine but no loss of life has been reported from that area.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been rushed to augment rescue and relief operations that were started immediately in the Kishtwar area by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Army personnel. Two Army Columns were mobilised on Wednesday -the first column was mobilised early morning while the second reached there later during the day.
The authorities were closely monitoring the situation.
