NASSCOM Inspire Award for Technology Adoption in Small Industry Category goes to Looms of Ladakh & Pèrak Apparel

New Delhi: Looms of Ladakh and Pèrak Apparel on Tuesday 28 March received the first ever NASSCOM Inspire Award 2022-23 for Technology Adoption in Small Industry Category for Smart Value Chain. 

The NASSCOM SME Inspire Awards 2022-23 ceremony was hosted at Le Meridien Hotel New Delhi.

NASSCOM Tech President Ms Debjani Ghosh, MSME Secretary GOI B B Swain and Mr. Gambhir from Knowledge Partner Grant Thornton awarded the representatives of Looms of Ladakh and Pèrak Ms Abhilasha Bahuguna , Founder Director & Chief Strategist; Ms Shakeela Bano, Elected artisan leader and member Ms Sonam Dolma at the SME Conclave.

The Smart Value Chain Initiative of Looms of Ladakh is sponsored by SIDBI. Looms of Ladakh won the sponsorship as a grant in SIDBI Swavlamban Challenge Fund. The technology partner of Looms of Ladakh is KOSHA Technology, Bangalore.

Looms of Ladakh Women Cooperative Ltd. (LL) has built a luxury brand. The producer owned global luxury brand adds value to pashmina fibre at source region and retails from it’s flagship store in Leh, Taj Group of Hotels, The Canvas at Manhattan New York, to name a few.

LL manufacturing takes place in 22 decentralised villages in Leh and Kargil districts with the distance between villages and Leh town being 10 to 250 kms at an altitude of 9000-17000 feet.

The decentralised village centres manufacture standardised handknits like sweaters, socks, caps and gloves along with wovens like shawls, stoles and scarves with Ladakh Pashmina and Wool in the range of INR 2000-30000.

The centralised atelier in Leh has started manufacturing apparels and the Chushul work studio is ready for apparels manufacturing unit expansion.

Looms of Ladakh Women Cooperative Ltd. Is launching a social initiative label Perak’ with AWWA Ladakh in April 2023.The strategy is to
upskill the first generation semi-skilled artisans of a raw material economy to skilled manufacturers cum owners of this industry. Label Perak
includes coats, jackets, trousers, dress, shirts, home furnishings with Khadi Cotton, Ladakhi Wool, and Eri Silk. The product categories fall under Premium Category ranging from INR 1500-10000.

Looms of Ladakh, a Producer Owned Brand, ensures the participation of the designer and producer herder-artisans in management. It’s managing body is elected once every three years. Ms Abhilasha Bahuguna, the founder director, is particular especially when it comes to running the company honestly and with maximum efficiency.
The Producer Owned Brand is establishing decentralised apparels manufacturing industry in frontier villages of Leh and Kargil districts through infrastructure development, capacity building, institution building and brand building – all of it simultaneously.
