Bridge breaks, plunges into river in Gujarat; more than 100 killed

Morbi, Gujarat: 141 persons have been reported killed as a 230-metre pedestrain bridge over River Macchu in Morbi town in Gujarat, built in the 19th Century during British rule, broke into two and plunged into the water. 

The ghastly accident occured at 18:40 on Sunday. 

The bridge had been closed for repairs and had been opened only recently. (updated evening of 31 October 2022)
