Beijing/New Delhi: There are reports that China is going through a military coup and Li Keqiang, the Premier is the coup leader. Reports indicate Chinese President Xi Jinping has been overthrown on the instructions of Party elders and seniors. Central Theatre Command troops are reportedly involved.

Maj Gen Rajiv Narayanan, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Strategic and Defence Analyst and recognised globally as an expert on China responded to a query on development in China by stating: “If true, it would mark a new phase in China. Not that they will change their vision, but may accept delays. Could also be a ploy by Xi to put down any resistance to him and his plans in the 20th Congress, starting 16 October 2022.Podcast

“Let’s wait and watch, as nothing is confirmed. Except that nearly 60% of all flights in China stand cancelled and there is a large movement of PLA”, General Narayanan observed.

It is being said by knowledgeable sources that after Xi visited Central Asia on the 14 September, Hu and Wen successfully persuaded Song Ping, the former member of the Standing Committee, that afternoon, and took control of the Central Guard Bureau that night. Jiang Zeng and the members of the Central Committee in Beijing were informed on a single line. The original Standing Committee members took over his (Xi’s) military power by a show of hands. When Xi learnt this, he returned to Beijing on the evening of the 16th, was picked at the airport, and is now under house arrest at Zhongnanhai’s home. The real position will be announced at the Seventh Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee.

When reorts last came in, there was large-scale military movement into Beijing, more than 6,000 domestic and international flights had been grounded, there was complete embargo on high-speed railways entering Beijing, and also a a complete ban on travel by officials and absence of Xi Jinping at the meeting of the Military Commission. A section of commentators and China watchers are saying the latest development shows that Xi’s forced re-election has been forcibly resisted by the party, and Xi’s end has come.

On the other side, experts are not ruling the “Coup’ as a ploy by Xi to put down any resistance to him and his plans linked with the 20th Congress, starting 16 October 2022.
