Jabalpur (MP): At least 10 persons, eight of them patients, have lost their lives and more than a dozen have received burn injuries in a massive fire that engulfed the main hospital wing of New Life Multi-Speciality Hospital here on Monday.

A news agency report quoting Jabalpur SP Siddharth Bahuguna said, “The injured have been admitted at different local infirmaries. Some of the victims are stated to be critical.”  

There are some who are pointing to a short circuit as the cause of the blaze but only a detailed investigation will confirm the exact cause.

Madhya pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a tweet: “In this hour of grief, the bereaved family should not consider themselves alone, I and the entire State of Madhya Pradesh are with the family. The state government will provide assistance of Rs. 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to each of the seriously injured. The government will also bear the cost of complete treatment of the injured.”
