Distinguished Police officer, former Madhya Pradesh DGP, RP Sharma is no more

Bhopal: RP Sharma, IPS (Ret.) Former Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh passed away in the State capital on Friday 22nd July 2022. He was 87.

RP Sharma, a 1958 batch IPS officer borne on the Madhya Pradesh cadre, was DGP Tripura from November 1987 till December 1990.

As Director General of Police, Tripura, Sharma was successful in ending long years of insurgency and restoring normalcy and peace in the extremism violence affected North-Eastern State.

Subsequently, Sharma was appointed as Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh, the largest State in the country till its bifurcatiin and formation of the separate State of Chhattisgarh in the year 2000. Mr. Sharma, was among a few distinguished IPS officers, who twice became the Madhya Pradesh DGP.

Sharma was also IG BSF West Bengal and DIG Bastar in the 80s. Earlier, he had successfully led the anti-dacoity operations in the Budlekhand region when he was SP Chhatarpur and Sagar.
