New Delhi: On Smt Draupadu Murmu’s huge victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening summed up the outcome of the Presidentential election by stating that India has scripted history by electing a daughter of India hailing from a tribal community born in a remote part of eastern India as our President at a time when 1.3 billion Indians are celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (75 years of India’s Independence).
While congratulating Smt. Droupadi Murmu on this feat, the Prime Minister has thanked all those MPs and MLAs across party lines who have supported her candidature.
Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji has been an outstanding MLA and Minister. She had an excellent tenure as Jharkhand Governor, the Prime Minister said in tweet adding “I am certain she will be an outstanding President who will lead from the front and strengthen India’s development journey.”
“Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji’s life, her early struggles, her rich service and her exemplary success motivates each and every Indian. She has emerged as a ray of hope for our citizens, especially the poor, marginalised and the downtrodden’ the Prime Minister Modi has observed.
Smt. Murmu has received thumping support both from Members of Parliament and State legislators across the country. It is not only those from the NDA but people’s representatives cutting across party lines that have voted for her. there has also been cross voting and those from the Congress and other opposition parties have also voted for her in large numbers.
Our Editor Lalit Shastri adds:
Smt Murmu displayed the highest standard of decorum during her campaign, but one thing that would leave a sour taste is the manner in which the Opposition candidate, former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha tried to vitiate the atmosphere by casting aspersons on the election process. He touched the nadir and was at his worst when on one side he undermined the stature of Smt Murmu by saying on television that the BJP was hiding behind a scheduled tribe lady and on the other, he even had the odacity to hurl the charge that the Government had used money power in the presidential election. On his second charge regarding the use of money, he owes an explanation to the nation. If Sinha has proof and evidence for what he had said, he should place it in public domain or else should be ready to be in the dock and face legal consequences for hurling a baseless charge aimed at lowering the credibility of not only the Presidential election but also that of the highest office of President of India.
Addressing his press conference in Jaipur, flanked by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Sinha even had defamed the central agencies and the Government by saying if he gets elected, the very next day after being sworn-in as President, he shall “stop the misuse of central agencies by the Goverment”.
