Leh, Ladakh: A delegation from Looms of Ladakh led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lobzang Lamo and founder director Abhilasha Bahuguna called on Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, RK Mathur, at Raj Bhawan on Monday 23 May 2022.
The Lietenent Governor was briefed about the skill development programme being undertaken by Looms of Ladakh for women self-help goups from Ladakh under various schemes; its focus an “Vocal for Local” and the effort to promote local handicrafts in national and international markets: the elections and audit conducted by Looms of Ladakh, and the funding provided to the women’s cooperative by National Bank of Agri culture and Rural Development (NABARD).
The LG was also informed by the delegation about the plan to encourage more women members to join the society to enable them to become self-sufficient and independent, the garment production process initiated by the women’s cooperative and construction of the new office building at Kuze, in Choglamsar to train women from lower socio-economic strata. The members of the delegation sought guidance from the Lieutenant Governor and his support in providing training to women self-help groups and also help for workers’ sheds and procurement of machines and equipment.
