New Delhi: Coinciding with the Varanasi civil court order to the Varanasi District Magistrate (DM) to seal the area of the Gyanvapi mosque complex where a ‘Shiva linga’ has been found, the Hindu Sena chief on Monday 16 May 2022 filed an Intervention Application (IA) before the Supreme Court and sought an order from it to intervene in the Gyanvapi Mosque Survey case.
The survey and videography of the Gyanvapi complex has been done on orders of the Allahabad High Court which allowed an advocate commissioner to survey the Gyanvapi mosque.
Hindu Sena has sought dismissal of the Mosque Committee’s appeal filed before the Supreme Court. Hindu Sena, in its IA filed before the Supreme Court, said that the Places of Worship Act is not applicable to Gyanvapi Masjid case.
The Supreme Court’s division bench is expected to hear today (17 May) the appeal filed by the Muslim party against the Allahabad High Court’s order permitting videography, inside the Gyanvapi-Kashi Vishwanath mosque complex.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising Justice PS Narasimha will hear the appeal filed by the Management Committee for Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Varanasi. The appeal challenges the Allahabad High Court’s order, permitting videography, inside the Gyanvapi-Kashi Vishwanath mosque.
The Supreme Court did not pass any interim order on this appeal this past Friday and said that it will go through the documents and list it for hearing.
