Positive outlook and self-confidence help in figting cancer

Bhopal: A special lecture on “Cancer awareness and the depth of its clutches” was organized online on Tuesday 22 February 2022 by the ‘Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell’ of Institute for Excellence in Higher Education (IEHE) in the State capital.

Dr. Sunil V. Sharma (Senior Research Scientist, School of Chemistry, University of St. Andrews) Scotland, UK was the chief guest and subject expert. IEHE Director Dr. Pragyesh Kumar Agarwal was present.

The main objective of the lecture was to make people aware of the dreaded cancer disease, to provide a positive environment to those who are suffering from it to make them believe that the victory or defeat (against the disease) depends on how you tackle it in your mind.

In his address, the chief guest shared detailed information using PPt about the types of cancer disease, its various symptoms, precautions etc. Expressing concern about the increasing cancer patients in India, Dr Sharma cited from the National Cancer Registry Program Report 2020, to point out that the number of cancer cases in the country in the year 2020 was around 13.9 lakhs and on the current basis, it is likely to increase to 15.7 lakhs by 2025. To prevent cancer, special emphasis should be given on nutritious and quality food, yoga exercise etc, he added.

The lecture began with Saraswati vandana and was conducted by Dr. Tanja Qureshi.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sandeepa Kalbhor.  Along with Dr. Sandhya Prasad, the convener, IEHE staff and students attended the special lecture on Cancer.
