After Arun Misra CEO Hindustan Zinc Limited (HCL) took charge as the first ever Indian Asian Chairperson of the International Zinc Association, Shivaprasad Kherad, a Science communicator and a science Museum professional, wrote on facebook that it helped him recollect his memories of seeking help from HZL while curating ‘Our Science and Technology’ Heritage gallery. He goes on to observe – “HZL has a great history and India has the distinction of producing zinc to industrial scale much before William Champion obtained his patent”. Kherad writes: “I got lot of support from HZL and we could organise a lecture from Paul Craddock, British Museum, among others on the history of zinc smelting in India and the research funded by HZL were immensely beneficial”.
Arun Misra took over as the CEO of Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL), a Vedanta Group company, from August 1, 2020. An electrical engineer graduate from IIT-Kharagpur, Arun Misra joined Hindustan Zinc on November 20, 2019 Deputy CEO. He started his career with Tata Steel and later became vice-president of the mining division. Arun Misra has an illustrious background. Brilliance runs in his family. His elder brother, Tapan Misra is a distinguished scientist, who has been Director Space Application Centre (SAC) and Advisor In Department of Space. He is recognised globally as father of Indian SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar).
Shivprasad Kherad has had the distinction of heading three National level science Centres/ Museum of India in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore and the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai and Bangalore. He has curated several exhibitions on science , biographical exhibitions, history of science, Cricket etc.. Authored several articles and four exhibition catalogs. Served as Nodal Officer for the Illuminating India : 5000 Years of Science and Innovation, exhibition which was organised by London Science Museum. He is Winner of 16th National Award instituted by NES and was Nominated for the Eastern Eye Community Engagement Award, UK.
