Seizure of AK series weapons from Munger in Bihar: NIA chargesheets arms trafficker

Patna: NIA on Wednesday 2 June, filed supplementary charge-sheet before NIA Special Court here against an arms trafficker from Gaya district in Bihar.

The accused arms trafficker is Rajiv Kumar Singh @ Chunnu Singh S/o Mithilesh Prasad Singh, resident of Village-Tetar, falling under Polive Station Atri, in Gaya district of Bihar. He has been charged under Sections 120B read with 380 & 414 of IPC, Section 25 (1A), 25(1AA) & 26 of Arms Act and Section 39 of UA(P) Act 1967 (law for prevention of unlawful activities).

The case relates to recovery of three AK-47 weapons on the disclosure of charge-sheeted accused Shamsher Alam from the premises of Rizwana Begum. In this regard, an FIR (no. 323/2018) was registered against 26 accused and other unknown persons on 7 September 2018 at Muffasil Police Station in Munger district of Bihar.

NIA had re-registered the case as RC-31/2018/NIA/DLI dated 5 October 2018 and taken over the investigation. 14 accused persons have been chargesheeted by NIA earlier in the case.

Investigation has revealed that certain employees and ex-employees of Central Ordinance Depot (COD) at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh had conspired with a group of arms smugglers and had stolen a large number of AK series rifles, their parts and SLR’s from the sheds of COD, Jabalpur. The king-pin of the racket Purshottam Lal Rajak an ex armorer of COD had cannibalized serviceable parts from out of commission weapons and had manufactured functioning prohibited weapons such as AK-47. Twenty-two such AK-47 weapons have been recovered so far. These weapons stolen out of COD Jabalpur were then supplied to arms smugglers from Munger, Bihar which were then further supplied to naxals and criminals.

The chargesheeted accused Rajiv Kumar Singh is a close associate of chargesheeted accused Manjur Alam. He was an important link in the chain of supply of cannibalized weapons and used to receive the weapons from Manjur Alam and had supplied the same to naxals and criminals in Bihar and Jharkhand.
