Heritage, iconic and cultural buildings will remain as they are. None of these buildings will be touched. Two projects are under implementation, the new Parliament building and Central Vista avenue, the Minister announced.

Puri knocked out the detractors who are saying that the government is spending Rs 20,000 crore on construction of ‘Modi Mahal’ during pandemic. “One does not know where this figure is coming from. Two projects have been initiated. These are the new Parliament building project for Rs 862 crore and the Central Vista project for Rs 477 crore. This is just about Rs 1,300 crore, the Minister said.

This project began, if reports are to be believed, because of a superstitious belief that the present Parliament building is ‘unlucky’”. How someone can put their signature on this bizarre letter defies logic!

Rahul Gandhi says ‘Modi Mahal ban raha hai’, lot of people take that as a narrative.

On the narrative being pushed by the Opposition “why such a colossal amount will be spent on the Central Vista Project during the pandemic’:

This is motivated criticism, there is no relation between expenditure on the health sector and the Central Vista project.

A new Parliament was needed because the current one lies in the seismic zone 4 and because we will be celebrating 75th anniversary as an independent country in 2022.

Hardeep Singh is Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs (I/C); Civil Aviation (I/C); and Minister of State for Commerce & Industry. He is a former diplomat & author.
