Mumbai: It was minutes after 5 pm on Saturday 17 April 2021. The Vangani Station in Maharashtra wore a deserted look when suddenly a blind mother lost control and her little child slipped from the platform and fell on the railway track.
The mother was helpless….a train was closing in at 90 kms per hour – thats when Mayur Shelke, a railway pointsman, came running like a superman and without an iota of thought about his own life, he dashed and saved the child’s life. His act of bravery and courage will be written in golden letters for posterity.
India’s Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal said in a statement that the nation is “Very proud of Mayur Shelke, Railwayman from the Vangani Railway Station in Mumbai who has done an exceptionally courageous act, risked his own life & saved a child’s life”.
