Zorawar Singh – the legendary General of Jammu and Kashmir

General Zorawar Singh

Newsroom24x7 remembers Zorawar Singh, the legendary General of Maharaja Gulab Singh – the Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, on his 235th Anniversary (b.13 April 1786, in a Dogra family in village Kahlur, now Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh). Every Indian citizen should cherish the memory and legacy of this great warrior who will always be remembered for the conquests in Ladakh, Tibet, Baltistan and Iskardu. General Zorawar Singh is popularly referred to as the “Conqueror of Ladakh and Tibet“. As tribute to the great warrior we are reproducing an article on him by Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal.

Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal

Zorawar, the legendary General of Maharaja Gulab Singh of Jammu and Kashmir, earned for himself the title of “Little Napoleon of India’ and has been described as the military genius of the nineteenth century by Cunningham. “During the long history of India, no Army from Hindustan had attacked Tibet. No Indian ruler had thought of conquering it and no Indian General accustomed to the heat of the plains had ever dared face the rigour of the Tibetan climate. Zorawar conceived the idea of conquering the Central Tibetan province for his master and prepared an expedition for that purpose.”

These Trans-Himalayan Campaigns fought by General Zorawar Singh, over a century ago, have suddenly become important for us, for with the Chinese aggression we find a large portion of our Army deployed in those very areas. Even the lapse of this period has not changed some basic factors of warfare in these regions and the effects of terrain, altitude and climate remain very much the same. We can, therefore, still learn some useful lessons from the study of his campaigns.

Bhopal: Over-riding faith in Ayurveda and the miracle of herbal medicines has helped a resident of Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh, along with his wife and others in his family, all of whom had tested positive for COVID-19, recover from the dreaded disease.

On 20 February, retired Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Dr Ramgopal Soni received a call from his friend Santosh Jain who lives in Balaghat. He told him that along with him, three members of his family had tested positive for COVID.

De Soni advised his friend to prepare a decoction of 25 grams of Kalmegh and Giloy in one liter of water. He was asked to boil and reduce it to half and then filter it.

A 20 ml dose of this decoction was to be taken thrice a day. He was also advised to lick “Trikut” honey (paste of dry ginger, black pepper, peepali) – also three time each day.

Further, he was told to take 15 drops of banyan milk/sap, mixed with two spoons of plain milk twice a day.

After 4 days, on Wednesday night, Santosh Jain informed Dr Soni that his fever subsided within two days. Barring some weakness, he felt fine. His wife, whose lung was badly infected, also has recovered completely.

Jain informed Dr Soni that as he could not extract the milky sap from a banyan leaf, he took a soft 4 inch long twig from the tree. After crushing and boiling it in water, he took that as an alternative dose.

This is a useful bit of information for those who are unable to extract banyan milk, Dr Soni told Newsroom24x7.

The Jain family, has recovered completely within a matter of one week. They have been told to continue taking the decoction for seven more days along with banyan sap and tricoot honey.

The relatives of the Santosh Jain, including some doctors in the US, had put immense pressure on him and they had asked him not to play with his life. Instead Ayurveda, he should go for allopathy, they had firmly told him. But Jain refused to pay heed and he said to himself “if he was destined to die then he would prefer to stay at home and try the herbal remedies”.

Dr Soni’s Advice to the people

If you want a mixture of Kalmegh and Giloy, it is available online from Viraheal and Trikut Gyan Herbal Company. Dr Soni also is particular in telling people to strictly follow the COVID related guidelines. He tells everyone not to drop gaurds. All must maintain safe distance of 2 meters, use masks, regularly wash hands with soap and use sanitizer. Even go for vaccine, he says.

As prophylactic, one could go for 20 ml of Kalmegh and Giloy decoction once in the morning for a month and then for 6 to 10 days the next month. This cycle has to be repeated after a month’s gap.

In case of exposure, instead of once, the decoction will have to be taken thrice a day along with Trikuta honey and banyan sap as mentioned above.

Have faith in Ayurveda. If you want to defeat Corona, then go for Ayurveda treatment without any fear, Dr Soni asserts while underscoring all should follow the Health Administration guidelines.
