A web link now floating freely on social networks will obviously spread confusion about the efficacy and usefulness of vaccines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The matter in question is a news item titled “Top vaccine scientist warns the world: HALT all covid-19 vaccinations immediately, or “uncontrollable monster” will be unleashed

We at Newsroom24x7 felt the need to dispel doubts and shared the link with a couple of our friends and subscribers for a scientific perspective on the issue flagged.

We are reproducing below what we treat as the most objective response we got:

“The virus does mutate. Yes there will be new strains. Yes there will be a need to periodically vaccinate, like flu vaccine. But not what this article says. This kind of alarmist groups propagate alarmist messages. One good test is that publications that are peer reviewed in open forum. What the world has is a set of vaccines that can be used now, and there will be new ones as we progress. With all said and done, I’m of the view that Indian way of norm- wash hands, don’t touch things, keep distance, no ‘Juta’, which followers of traditional Indian households still follow, should become the new normal and all should strictly follow because this is the correct norm, with or without vaccine.
Some parts of India have adopted the foreign way of sharing food from single plate, touching, hugging etc!!! These things have to change to mitigate spread of virus purely from the hygiene perspective.”
