Maharashtra Home Minister resigns after High Court orders CBI probe into extortion charges by former Mumbai Police Chief

Mumbai: Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday 5 April resigned from the Uddhav Thackeray-led ministry.

Deshmukh’s resignation came shortly after the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary investigation within 15 days into allegations of corruption and misconduct levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
