New Delhi: The Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) here on Monday 15 March granted bail to seven accused persons who were not arrested earlier in the JNU sedition case when it came up for hearing for the first time after summons had been issued to the accused on the presentation of chargesheet by the police.
One of the accused in the 2016 sedition case is former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar along with 9 others.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Pankaj Sharma has ordered the police to provide chargesheet copies to the accused and put up the matter for April 7 to scrutinise documents in the case.
The seven accused who were not arrested before filing of charge sheet are Aquib, Mujeeb, Umar Gul, Rayees Rasool, Basharat Ali, Khalid Basheer. They have been granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and a surety of a like amount.
Along with Kanhaiya Kumar, present in court on Monday were Umar Khalid, who is already in custody in the Delhi riots case, and Anirban, besides the seven others granted bail on Monday.
