Meerut: Dr. Laxmikant Bajpai, Ex-President of the Uttar Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put the record straight vis-a-vis Ayurvedic medicine and treatment of novel corona infection by writing to the National President of the Indian Medical Association who had earlier written to Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan protesting against the government’s policy towards Indian medical system, especially Ayurveda.

Dr Bajpai has told the IMA chief in no uncertain terms that his letter to the Union Health Minister emanates from a preconceived notion and has been written due to ignorance. While underscoring that all systems and medical practices have their own utility and acceptance in public, Dr Bajpai has drawn attention to the advisory issued to all the State Governments vide D.O.No.-NOS16030118 / 2019 NAM 05/03/2020 by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The advisory specifically mentions 34 indigenous and foreign research papers on the importance of indigenous medicines.

Further, Dr Bajpai goes on to add that on the request of Rashtriya Kamdhenu Commission, the Government of India has allowed COVID treatment with the consent of the patient from Panchagavya vide its Gazette CG-DL0-E0-21042020-219088 dated 21.04.2020. Authentic experiments have been successfully conducted in Jamnagar and Rajkot under the supervision of Dr. Hitesh Jani in this regard.

Dr Bajpai has asked the IMA chief whether or not they have any medicine or cure for novel Corona infection, except for symptomatic treatment or immunity boosters. On the other hand, better treatment is available in Ayurveda, he has emphasised.

When it comes to the treatment of chronic diseases, your system of medicine will cure one disease but at the same time lead to another and then you will have to prescribe more medicine to cure it.

Explaining further, at a broad level, Dr Bajpai has said in his letter:

“If there is a budget of Rs 100 for producing medical graduates, Rs 82 are spent on producing allopathic doctor and remaining Rs. 18 are spent on the education of graduates covering all other systems of medical practice. We also lack adequate governmental support in terms of research.

According to Ayurveda, corona is a disease from the nose to the lungs. In Ayurveda, we have time-tested for cure – from application of oil in the nose to gargle with lukeworm water mixed with rock salt for throat, besides steam inhalation, drinking of specially prepared decoction, and sniffing. In Ayurveda there is also effective treatment for cough and cold

The poor people can find all that’s necesary for ayurvedic treatment in their own kitchen. Immunity booster is a means of prevention – Ayurveda improves immunity by natural sources like spices, amla, turmeric, basil, neem, Panchagavya Giloy, etc. Your medicines come from chemical sources.

For boosting immunity, there is Sudarshan Ghanavati, Tribhuvan Kirti Ras, Naradiyya Lakshmi Vilas Ras, Godanti Bhasma, Asbhaka Bhasma, Vardhaman Pipli, August Haritaki, Chyawanprash Vasavaleh Kantakari Avaleh Coronil (Pantajali), Guduchi Ghanavati, Sanjeevani Vati, Gojivyadikwath, Ayushwati.

By keeping the patient at home at the L-1 and L2 stage of Corona infection, treatment is possible with the help of the Ayurvedic system or the Indian system of medicine. Within a week the patients can recover at a nominal cost and without much drain in terms of government effort and expenditure.

All medical practices have their own place and importance, and the patients have the right to choose their option considering the benefit and their requirement. Your system is recognised for invasive surgery and emergency services.

The Corona patients, their families are facing the huge challenge of meeting the excessive expenditure of hospitals and nursing homes

A huge economic burden has also been imposed on the government and this could have been avoided. We should be complaining that the government has lost the opportunity to establish Indian medical practices in the early period of Corona. There was also the opportunity to be recognized internationally.

In the era of globalization, your bias is not appropriate. I trust that you will not object to giving equal respect to all medical practices and the right of the public to pick the medical practice of their choice.”
