New Delhi: China continues to undertake provocative activities to escalate the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
This has been underscored in categorical terms through an official statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday 8 September 2020.
While asserting India’s commitment to disengagement and de-escalation of the situation on the LAC, it has been emphasised by India that at no stage has the Indian Army transgressed across the LAC or resorted to use of any aggressive means, including firing.
India has made it amply clear “it is the PLA that has been blatantly violating agreements and carrying out aggressive manoeuvres, while engagement at military, diplomatic and political level is in progress.
On 7 September 2020, it was the PLA troops that were attempting to close-in with one of India’s forward positions along the LAC and when dissuaded by the Indian troops, PLA troops fired a few rounds in the air in an attempt to intimidate the Indian side. However, despite the grave provocation, the Indian troops exercised great restraint and behaved in a mature and responsible manner, India has pointed out to set the record straight.
While emphasising that the Indian Army is committed to maintaining peace and tranquility, China has been told that India is also determined to protect its national integrity and sovereignty at all costs. The statement by the Western Theatre Command of China is an attempt to mislead their domestic and international audience.
