Bhopal: Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma, former President of India and architect of modern Bhopal, was a freedom fighter, had led the merger movement at the time of Independence and was the first Chief Minister of Bhopal. He was a great scholar who rose to the highest office in the country. He also was the Vice President of India, Congress President, Union Minister, Governor and a minister in Madhya Pradesh for long years. The nation remembered him as a great son of the soil on his 102nd birth Anniversary on 19 August.
