Washington DC: US Sen. Kamala D. Harris on Tuesday 11 August 2020 was chosen by former Vice President Joe Biden to be his running mate and if Biden defeats President Donald Trump in the Presidential election this year, she would not only become the first woman but also the first Black and South Asian American woman in US history to serve as vice president of America.
Three years ago, Kamala D. Harris was sworn in as a Senator for California, the second African-American woman and first South Asian-American senator in history. She serves on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the Select Committee on Intelligence, the Committee on the Judiciary, and the Committee on the Budget. After earning an undergraduate degree from Howard University and a law degree from the University of California, Hastings, she began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
In 2003, Kamala became the District Attorney of the City and County of San Francisco. After two terms as the District Attorney of San Francisco, Kamala was elected as the first African-American and first woman to serve as California’s Attorney General.
Kamala’s father immigrated to the U.S. from Jamaica to study economics and her mother immigrated from India. Kamala’s mother told her growing up “Don’t sit around and complain about things, do something,” which is what drives Kamala every single day.
