New Delhi: The President has accepted the resignation of Girish Chandra Murmu as Lieutenant Governor and appointed Manoj Sinha as the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Sinha, who will be the 2nd Lt Governor of Union Territory of J&K, was promoted and was Union Cabinet Minister from 16 May to 24 May 2019 in the first Modi ministry (Modi 1.0). He was Minister of Communication (independent charge) (5 July 2016 – 24 May 2019) and Minister of State (MoS), Railways (26 May 2014 – 24 May 2019). Sinha is a three-time BJP MP.

Murmu’s exit was imminent after he got a lesson from the Election Commission of India just the other day for crossing the line and talking in the public domain about the timing of elections in the Union Territory of J&K.
