Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday declared a five-day state mourning on the demise of State Governor Lalji Tandon.
The national flag will fly half-mast at government buildings in the state till July 25.
Tandon, 85, was a seasoned politician. He had a dominating presence in Uttar Pradesh where he served as cabinet minister and was elected to the assembly thrice. He entered politics after completing his graduation and became a minister for the first time in 1991-92.
Tandon was former Lok Sabha MP. He represented the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat (2009-14) when former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not contest that seat. He was leader of the UP legislative council twice during 1997 2002 and 2003-2007.
Tandon took oath as Madhya Pradesh governor on July 29, 2019, when the Congress was in power in the state.bprior to that he was the Bihar Governor.
