We will give a befitting reply if provoked: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Chinese treachery at Galwan valley
New Delhi: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday 17 June assured the Nation that the supreme sacrifice of the Indian soldiers, who laid down their life protecting the sovereignty and integrity of India at Galwan Valley this past Monday, will not go in vain.
The Indian Army personnel were ambushed by deciet at the Line of Actual Control by the Chinese Army while talks were on between India and China, both at the diplomatic and Army level to diffuse the situation arising due to a massive Chinese incursion into the Indian territory and the resultant stand-off last month. Twenty Indian Army personnel, including a Colonel, have died in the violent clash with the Chinese Army on Monday.
The Prime Minister said “India’s integrity and sovereignty is supreme for us, and no one can stop us from defending it. India wants peace but if provoked, we will give a befitting reply.
We never provoke anyone, but we also do not compromise with the integrity and sovereignty of our country. Whenever he need arose, we have demonstrated our strength and proved our capabilities when it came to protecting and defending the integrity and sovereignty of the country.
We have always worked closely with our neighbours in a cooperative and friendly manner. We have always wished for their development and welfare, the PM said adding, whatever may be the situation now, India will firmly protect every inch of its land and its self-respect.
The country will be proud of the fact that our soldiers have also killed (the enemy) before laying down their life, the PM observed and urged all the citizens to pay homage to the brave soldiers by observing a two-minutes silence.
In order to discuss the situation in the India-China border areas, the Prime Minister has called for an all-party meeting at 5 PM on 19 June. Presidents of various political parties would take part in this virtual meeting.
The loss of soldiers in Galwan is deeply disturbing and painful. Our soldiers displayed exemplary courage and valour in the line of duty and sacrificed their lives in the highest traditions of the Indian Army. -Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister of India
The pain of losing our brave soldiers while protecting our motherland at Ladakh’s Galwan can not be put in words. Nation salutes our immortal heroes who sacrificed their lives to keep Indian territory safe and secure. Their bravery reflects India’s commitment towards her land. – Amit Shah, Home Minister of India
If Galwan has to be a turning point then we must listen to our mind NOT our heart and emotions. Time has to be used as a weapon – plan, prepare and act with all tools of national power. – Air Vice Marshal Manmohan Bahadur (Retd), Additional Director General, Centre for Air Power Studies, Delhi
It is absolutely clear what China wants. Monday’s barbaric attack on Indian Army by the PLA was a planned operation. We all know, modern day wars are fought not on one but many fronts. We should take China head on where it will hurt them the most and that’s the economic front. Economic war should be fought with the goodwill of so many countries that are being bullied by China. Let all Indians take a pledge today that they shall not use anything made by China and as soldiers it should be our firm resolve that from now onward no soldier will ever buy or promote any Chinese item – Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (retd)
At this critical juncture people from all walks of life have come forward on social media and lashed out the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son – former Congress President Rahul Gandhi for asking all kinds of questions that have not gone well with the Indian public.
Congress President has gone to the extent of asking the Prime Minister to reveal the “truth” about the border situation. Assuring Congress party’s solidarity with the Indian Army and government , she has asked the Prime Minister to give specific details of the Indian territory now under Chinese occupation.
While asking – How dare China kill our soldiers? How dare they take our land? Rahul Gandhi has also written on Twitter: Why is the PM silent? Why is he hiding? Enough is enough. We need to know what has happened.
