PM announces nationwide lockdown
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, 24 March 2020, announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown for a conclusive battle against Coronavirus from 12 o’clock midnight.
Our actions today will define how much we can succeed in facing the challenge of Coronavirus, the PM said and underscored the importance of social distancing.
The Prime Minister was addressing the nation at 8 pm, Tuesday.
He appealed to the people to stay indoors during the lockdown period pray for the well being of doctors, paramedical staff, pathologists, health administrators, hospital staff, sanitary workers, law enforcers, media-men who are working g round the clock to save the common citizens.
The central and state governments are working round the clock to ensure regular supply of essential commodities.
The civil society and a large number of people are coming forward to help the poor and needy. To face this pandemic, the government has taken necessary decisions to improve the health infrastructure and human resource needed to augment the health care system.
The PM expressed satisfaction as the private sector is also coming forward to help the Government.
Modi cautioned against rumour mongering and said people should follow the law, maintain order and adhere to government guidelines. He particularly emphasised that everyone should avoid taking any medication without doctor’s advice.
