New Delhi: The death toll in riots that engulfed neighbourhoods in Jaffarabad, Maujpur, Chandbagh, Gokulpuri and surrounding areas of North-East Delhi over the last few days mounted to 41 on Friday.
Most business establishments and shops that bore the bruntof violence, stone pelting and arson, remained closed after spradic incidents of violence were reported from some areas even on Friday. Two days ago, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had visited these neighborhoods a day earlier and police conducted flag march in the riot-torn areas to reassure people that the security forces were standing by them.
In the meanwhile, the police is investigating the role of Aam Aadmi Party leader Tahir Hussain accused of the brutal murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma and inciting riots. The body of the Intelligence Bureau officer was recovered from a drain barely about 100 metres from Tahir Hussain’s multi-story house in North East Delhi. Large quantity of stones, acid pouches and molotov cocktails have been found in this house. Hundreds of rioters had used the roof of this house to hurl petorl bombs and stones from this house
