Tehran/Washington: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message on Wednesday, 8 January 2019, stressed will be the final answer to assassinating the Iranian commander General Soleimani.

Rouhani underscored in his Twitter account that Soleimani fought heroically against ISIS, Al Nusra, Al Qaeda, et al. “If it weren’t for his war on terror, European capitals would be in great danger now,” he added.

“Our final answer to his assassination will be to kick all US forces out of the region, he observed.

Rouhani, in a telephone conversation with President of the European Council Charles Michel on 9 January, Thursday, said that the European Union should not allow Iran to become completely disappointed with Europe. He especially called on Europe to take stances independent of Washington.

Soleimani and the acting commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) – known as the Hashd al-Shaabi – Abu Mahdi Al-Mohandis, leaving Baghdad airport in two separate cars were targeted and assassinated on Friday on the instruction of the US President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran on Wednesday morning hit the big US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Anbar province in western Iraq. The attacks came in response to the assassination of Soleimani by the US forces in Iraq.

In the meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi condemned NATO secretary general’s remarks in justifying assassination of Lieutenant General Soleimani stating it was against international law.

Mousavi noted that justifying the US government’s move to assassinate Soleimani is tantamount to closing eyes to the commander’s role in the determining fight against terrorists and destruction of Daesh and warding off the threats to the region and beyond borders of Europe.

Donald Trump’s Assertion

As long as I am President of the United States, Iran will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon – Donald Trump

The American people should be extremely grateful and happy no Americans were harmed in last night’s attack by the Iranian regime. We suffered no casualties, all of our soldiers are safe, and only minimal damage was sustained at our military bases.

Our great American forces are prepared for anything. Iran appears to be standing down, which is a good thing for all parties concerned and a very good thing for the world.

For far too long — all the way back to 1979, to be exact — nations have tolerated Iran’s destructive and destabilizing behavior in the Middle East and beyond. Those days are over. Iran has been the leading sponsor of terrorism, and their pursuit of nuclear weapons threatens the civilized world. We will never let that happen.

He trained terrorist armies, including Hezbollah, launched terrorist strikes against civilian targets. He fueled bloody civil wars all across the region. He viciously wounded and murdered thousands of U.S. troops, including the planting of roadside bombs that maim and dismember their victims.

Then, Iran went on a terror spree, funded by the money from the deal, and created hell in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The missiles fired last night at us and our allies were paid for with the funds made available by the last administration. The regime also greatly tightened the reins on their own country, even recently killing 1,500 people at the many protests that are taking place all throughout Iran.”

US Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo earlier said in a press briefing in Washington DC that the Islamic Republic of Iran has refused to join the regional and international consensus for peace and is actively working to undermine the peace process by continuing its long global efforts to support militant groups in Afghanistan.

Most people know about Iran’s proxy networks in the Arab world, but the regime also has a relationship with the Taliban and related groups, such as the Haqqanis, the Tora Bora, and the Mullah Dadullah group. The Taliban’s entanglement in Iran’s dirty work will only harm the Afghanistan peace process, Pompeo went on to point out

On the strike that killed General Soleimani, Pompeo said not only had Soleimani done all of the things including the massacre of hundreds of thousands in Syria, enormous destruction of countries like Lebanon and Iraq, where they’ve denied them sovereignty, and the Iranians have really denied people in those two countries what it is they want, right, sovereignty, independence and freedom. This is all Soleimani’s handiwork. And then we’d watch as he was continuing the terror campaign in the region. We know what happened at the end of last year, in December, ultimately leading to the death of an American. So if you’re looking for imminence, you need to look no further than the days that led up to the strike that was taken against Soleimani.

Pompeo said that Soleimani was continuing efforts to build out a network of campaign activities that were going to lead potentially to the death of many more Americans.

Reacting to the observation by a journalist that Iran’s Foreign Affairs Minister Zarif granted an interview saying that Soleimani was on a diplomatic visit to Iraq, that the U.S. strike to take him out was state terrorism, that President Trump was prepared to commit war crimes, and that Iranians are enraged and also Trump’s indication that Iran’s cultural sites could be targeted, Pompeo said: “he was not there on a diplomatic mission trying to resolve a problem. I know there’s been some story that he was there representing a Saudi peace deal. I’ve spoken to my Saudi counterparts at great length. I’ll leave to them what the contents of their messages may be. But I can assure you that they will share my view, that he was not there representing some kind of agreement that was going to reduce risk or reduce the risks to the lives of Americans when he was on that trip.”

About cultural sites, the US Secretary of State said – “every target that’s being reviewed, every effort that’s being made will always be conducted inside the international laws of war.”
