Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Wednesday targeted the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) saying, the issue is not how the Act would be used but how it would be misused.

The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister today led a huge protest march to Save Constitution and against the Citizenship Amendment Act (ACC) from Rang Mahal square in TT Nagar to Minto Hall in the State capital.

Kamal Nath was first among several chief minister who had come out openly in defiance and had announced that the CAA and NRC would not be implemented in Madhya Pradesh.

The CAA is is specifically aimed at granting citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians, Parsis and Jains, barring Muslims, who have ilelgally migrated to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh due to religious persecution. Those who have come to India till end December 2014 will benefit from the Act.

Congress and other Opposition parties are opposing CAA saying that its discriminatory and against the letter and spirit of the Indian Constitution.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has driven home the point that the Muslims in India have no reason to worry and their interests like those of any other citizen are fully protected. Regarding NRC also, he has said that the Union cabinet has not even taken up for consideration. He has accused the Congress and and its allies of spreading lies, falsehood and confusion. According to the PM, these parties have given their silent approval to violent protests across the country.
