New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was targeted and punched left right in Parliament on Friday over his “rape in India” remark at a political rally at Godda in Jharkhand.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his NDA Government on the issue of rising crime against women, Rahul had said at the Godda rally he referred to the PM’s ‘Make in India’ campaihn and said these days it is ‘Rape in India’.
When the Lok Sabha Assembled for the day, Members observed the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attack on Parliament by paying their condolences to the martyrs and resolving to fight terrorism and committing to work for the unity, and integrity of the country.
Soon thereafter, Locket Chatterjee, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Hooghly Lin West Bengal drew the attention of the House and said: “We are talking about the country, Prime Minister Modi is talking about the country, but they are talking about rape. Modi ji has welcomed everyone to come and Make in India but Rahul Gandhi says – ‘Rape in India’. This is an insult to the women of entire India. This is an insult to Mother India.”
Next it was Prahlad Joshi, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, who took strong exception to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘rape in India’ remark and said the Prime Minister called upon the whole world to come and establish manufacturing industry here and increase production. Smriti Irani, Minister for Women and Child Development and Texstile said: “This is the first time in the history of the nation, the leader of a political party has given a clarion call and publicly said that women of India be raped. This is the first time that a Congress leader has made rape a matter of political mockery.
