More than 40 killed in Delhi blaze

Delhi: At least 43 have died in a fire that broke out early Sunday morning (8 December 2019) in Anaj Mandi (grain market) on Rani Jhansi Road in Delhi. This is the second biggest fire tragedy after the Uphar Cinema one in Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered a magisterial inquiry. Rescue operations began promptly and Firemen did their best to save lives. The injured immediately were rushed to hospitals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “The fire in Delhi’s Anaj Mandi on Rani Jhansi Road is extremely horrific. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. Wishing the injured a quick recovery. Authorities are providing all possible assistance at the site of the tragedy.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said: “We have lost more than 40 innocent lives to the tragic fire. I’ve ordered a magisterial inquiry into its cause, no culprit will be spared.

We can’t bring back lost lives, but Delhi govt will provide ₹10 L assistance to families that lost their loved ones and ₹1 lakh for the injured.”
