Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Government on Tuesday, 1 October 2019 promoted 4 senior IPS officers and transferred more than a dozen DG and ADG level police officers.
Rajendra Kumar appointed new SIT Chief
Prominent among those given new assignment is Rajendra Kumar. He has now been posted as the Special Director General of Police, Cyber Crime, Police Headquarters, Bhopal. He has also replaced Sanjeev Shami as the head of the Special Investigation Team investigating the massive honeytrap sex scandal that has rocked the ruling Congress party, leading opposition of the BJP and also the top echelons of Bureaucracy in Madhya Pradesh.
Rajendra Kumar’s appointment as SIT chief acquires significance as it coincides with media reports that Chief Minister Kamal Nath was annoyed with the large-scale leakage of information linked with the ongoing investigation into the honeytrap scandal. Names of several VIPs, including those of a former Chief Minister, a Governor, MPS, ruling Congress and BJP State leaders and senior IAS and IPS officers had started floating freely in the public domain for their alleged involvement in the sex scandal. There are also reports that the Chief Minister was annoyed as the scandal has adversely hit the image of Madhya Pradesh, especially at a time when the State government was gearing itself for “Magnificent Madhya Pradesh” – the mega three-day event being organised in Indore this month to attract investment.

The State Government is now in an overdrive mode to wash itself clean of the taint of the honeytrap scandal and project Madhya Pradesh as an ideal destination for investment and ease of doing business. For this purpose, it has gone in for an advertisement blitzkrieg with newspapers flashing “centre spread” colour advertisements and FM radio channels blaring the “Fabulous Madhya Pradesh” slogan. These are like an eye-sore and too jarring to the ear in the backdrop of the honeytrap scandal that has demonstrated how the government working has been corrupted, the steel frame of the bureaucracy has been reduced to a mangled heap and sexcapades have become the order of the day for doling out business contracts and releasing huge funds to NGOs in Madhya Pradesh.
