New Delhi: The nation today, 11 August 2019, on the death anniversary of Khudiram Bose pays homage to the revolutionary freedom fighter who laid down his life on the alter of the Freedom struggle against British rule.
Khudiram, along with Prafulla Chaki, had attempted to assassinate a British judge by bombing his carriage. Khudiram’s target – Magistrate Kingsford escaped as he was in a different carriage but two British women were killed.
While Prafulla committed suicide, Khudiram was arrested and tried for the murder and sentenced to death.
Mahatma Gandhi had denounced the violence and said: “the Indian people will not win their freedom through these methods.”
Khudiram, who was just over 18 years, was executed on 11 August 1908.
