Attari-Wagah: Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman crossed the zero line and returned to India on Friday night.

It is being asked by citizens across India, who had remained glued to their television sets the entire day to catch the first glimpse of Abhinandan: Why the Pak authorities had delayed the brave IAF pilot’s return to India by so many hours?  The timing of his release that coincided with prime time on TV so that everyone in Pakistan could see it as a spectacle says a lot.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan had announce in his Parliament yesterday that Abhinandan Varthaman was being returned to India as a “peace gesture”. This announcement, obviously came under great diplomatic pressure mounted by India and also the 26 February airstrike by Indian Air Force that completely destroyed the Jaish-e-Mohammed command and terrorist training camp at Balakot in Pakistan. The terror infrastructure in Pakistan was bombed within 12 days of the Pulwama terror attack.

Wing Cdr Abhinandan Varthaman was capture when he landed on the Pakistani side when he ejected  after his aircraft, a Mig 21, was hit on 27 Feb in a dog fight. This was after he had brought down a Pakistan Air Force F-16 that was intercepted when few Pakistani jets had crossed the border to target Indian Military installations.
