3 killed, 20 injured injured in grenade attack on religious congregation in Amritsar

Amritsar: Three persons were killed and 20 injured in a grenade attack on a religious congregation inside the Nirankari Bhavan at Adliwal village near Amritsar’s Rajasansi International Airport on Sunday.

The possibility of involvement of ISI-backed Khalistani or Kashmiri terror groups could not be ruled out, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said asserting the state won’t let the “forces of terror” to destroy the hard earned peace.

The Director General of Police Suresh Arora, who rushed to the spot, told media-persons that the incident appeared to be a terrorist act. He said that three people had died in the incident and 20 others were injured, two of them seriously. He said a NIA team will visit the site on Monday.

According to eyewitnesses, the grenade was hurled by a person, while another person, who was an accomplice, held the security guard hostage at gun point. The culprits, who came on a mobike and had their faces covered, managed to escape.
