Former SP of Chandigarh will serve a 3-year jail sentence in a bribery case
New Delhi: The Special Judge, CBI Cases, UT, Chandigarh on Friday (10 August 2018) sentenced Desh Raj, IPS, then SP (City), UT, Chandigarh to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 100,000 in a bribery case.
CBI had registered the bribery case on 18 October 2012 under Section 7 of Prevention Act, 1988 against Desh Raj,when he was SP (City), UT, Chandigarh on a complaint of an Inspector posted as SHO, Police Station – Sector 26, Chandigarh. It was alleged that the accused had demanded Rs.500,000 as illegal gratification from the complainant for showing favour in an enquiry against him.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.100,000 as first Installment.
A charge sheet was filed on in this case on 11 July 2013 in the court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, UT, Chandigarh.
The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
