Chennai: DMK president M Karunanidhi breathed his last here today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Chennai on Wednesday morning to pay his last respects to the departed leader.
The veteran 94- year old leader died shortly after 6 pm in the city hospital where he was admitted.
“We profoundly mourn the loss of one of the tallest leaders of India and we share the grief of family members and fellow Tamilians worldwide,” Dr Aravindan Selvaraj, Executive Director of Kauvery Hospital, said in a press statement.
Despite the best possible efforts by our team of doctors and nurses to resuscitate him, he failed to respond, the doctor said in his statement adding: “With deep anguish we announce the demise of our beloved Kalaignar M Karunanidhi on 7 August 2018 at 6.10 pm.
